Film Noir

The film genre Film Noir was introduced in the 1940s shortly after world war 2. It is commonly known as a stylish Hollywood crime drama. It is believed to have stretched up until the 1950s and has a low key black and white visual style. This was highly unknown to most american film producers from this old school classical era and its dark stylistic detective films were surprisingly accepted by society in this time.
The film usually consists of a very similar plot and usually has the same character roles which are:

  • The Everyman
  • The femme-fatale
  • The Henchman
  • The Villain
  • The Girl Next Door

The Everyman which is also known as the Anti Hero , usually has a bad past for instance been in prison many times, However the role of the anti hero commonly the character turns out to be a better man and a nice character then which his past shows. However the "Everyman" tends to fall 'deeply' in love with the femme fatal and tends to commit crimes and deeds to impress her for her benefit. The general conventions of a femme fatale tends to be a stereotypical young attractive women wearing clothes to impress which always ends up luring in the Everyman. The henchman are the 'Bad guys' as they work with the villain in an attempt to kill the every man which may or may not link to his past or even the things he does to impress the femme fatale. The role called 'The girl next door' is simply the girl who is often young and innocent and does not get involved with the violent side , and more often then not the role is used to show that the Everyman wants the girl next door , but he often does not know it.
